Tigers Go 0-2 on Weekend; Lose Close One to Jackson

By CYTF Staff:

The Cape Select Tigers were a few seconds and a few yards away from posting their first victory as the Jackson 5th Grade escaped Lou Muegge Field with a narrow 13-9 victory on Sunday morning.

The Tigers led throughout most of the 4th quarter but allowed a Jackson touchdown late. The Tigers marched down the field but fell about 15 yards short in the last minute. CYTF was led by the play of TJ Pullen (touchdown run) and a great 100-yard conversion interception and return from Harrison Ayers.

In the second game of the day, a tired CYTF team was little match for the Jackson 6th Graders as they lost 48-6. CYTF 5th grader Harrison Ayers again accounted for the lone Tiger points on a fumble return for a score.

The Tigers will complete play this coming weekend in Perryville against the host Perryville Warriors and a team from Farmington.

Cape Select Tigers Fall to 0-3; Play Twice on Sunday

By CYTF Staff:

The Cape Select Tigers fell to 0-3 with losses to Jackson and Perryville on Friday in the Cape Tigers Invitational Tournament at Lou Muegge Field.

Facing a vastly more experienced Jackson team, the Tigers were outplayed in almost every aspect of the game. The Jackson team went to 13-0 with a decisive 55-7 victory over our Tigers. The Tigers did pull to within 20-7 at one point on a nice reception from Zach Valenti on a halfback option pass from Trevon McClard that went for about 65 yards.

In the second game, a tired Tiger team could muster little offense and lost to Perryville 45-0. Again, facing a far more experienced team, Perryville scored on many outside sweeps throughout the afternoon.

The CYTF Select Tigers will be back in action with two games on Sunday, November 29. At 9am, the Tigers match up against the Jackson 5th graders while at 12:30pm, the CYTF Select team will face off against Jackson 6th graders again. All games will be played at Lou Muegge Field at the Cape Junior High School!

CYTF Select "Tigers" Drops Opener to Mean Machine

By CYTF Staff

The CYTF Select Team dropped their opener 40-0 to the Mean Machine Sunday at Lou Muegge Field. The Tigers played much better in the second half than in the first, but the Mean Machine showed quickness and the look of a team that had been practicing together for over three months.

Down 24-0 to start the second half, the Tigers were able to create two turnovers (fumble caused by Zach Valenti and an interception by William Keene), but were unable to capitalize on long drives deep into Mean Machine territory.

The Tigers team, only having been together for a little over two weeks, showed some promise on offense and the potential the team has. A few more practices together should bring the team together more.

Broncos and Patriots Win CYTF Championships!

By CYTF Staff:

Mother Nature blessed us with sunny skies and NO RAIN on Sunday as the Broncos captured the Junior League Championship and the Patriots captured the Senior League Championship.

Coach Jamie Moore's Broncos team came back from down by over 20 points in the second half to capture his second straight championship by defeating the Cowboys 28-26 at Houck Stadium. Offensively, Kinyon Hodges ran for some late scores for the Broncos and defensively, Dustin Majka and Trey Dover combined to stuff the Cowboy's star back Caleb Oswald late in the game to preserve the victory. Moore's teams are now a combined 10-2 in the last two CYTF Junior Seasons.

Not to be outdone, Coach Francis McClard was victorious in his first championship game as the Patriots defeated the Buccaneers for the second time during the year 20-6 in the late game last evening. Key offensive performances by running backs Trevon McClard and Adriano Grim along with key defensive plays swayed the game to the Patriots. The Buccaneer's Cyrus Woolard had an outstanding game running the ball, but in the end it was the Patriots defense that won out. The patriots end up 5-1 on the season while the Bucs finish 4-2.

In the consolation games, the 49ers took advantage of some key injuries and some outstanding line play from Zach Nunn to defeat the Jets 12-0 and capture their first win of the season. Brody Forrester played a key role for the 49ers offense and scored both TD's for the 49ers on long runs. The jets, missing star running back Tyrus Reddin in the game due to injury, were led by Mason Dunn on both offense and defense throughout the game. The 49ers finish 1-5 while and Jets finish 2-4 on the season.

In the Senior League consolation game, the Bears defeated the Bengals for the third time this season as TJ Pullen scored three times lifting them to a 20-6 victory in the day's second game. Led by Pullen, the quick back scored three touchdowns on long runs from scrimmage. The Bengals were led by running back Tyler Bening and some key plays from flanker Ethan Arnn. The Bears finish the season at .500 at 3-3 while the Bengals finish 0-6.
